Why do people use classic cars for banger racing instead of restoring them?
Answers:
When you are my age, you'll know that 'classic' is another word for dated!
Most dated cars cost far too much to restore, except for those with money to spare, who can indulge themselves this way.
The rest, instead of leaving them to rust and congest the byways, decide to let them go out with a 'bang', whilst having fun as well.
They all end up in the scrap yard and get recycled eventually!
As do we:-)
y have summit just sitting there wen its perfectly gd ta use!!??
Because classic cars are built sturdier than newer models and can absorb more damage.
Older cars still had full frames on them an are very strong. It brings a tear to my eye watching those cars being destroyed.
Some banger racing clubs offer points for the rarest type of car, so drivers try to out do each other. An Austin Cambridge Hearse is probably strangest I've used (complete with fake coffin - but that's another story!), though at moment lot of drivers seem to be appearing in Daimler DS420's and also Rolls Royce! Seems to be a thing for hearses as an off shoot from your question, maybe not best vehicles to restore and also a novelty to see them racing and going off to the scrapheap in a fun way.
