With a car this old it may well be dirt and grime within the piston heads and injectors, its needs a good clean out. I would recommend you go to Halfords and look for a product called hot shot. Fill your tank up to the top, then add the cleaner in with it.
I did this on my car, you may notice an increased amount of exhaust fumes for a while, this is just the all the muck coming from the engine. You should see an increase in engine performance, petrol consumption and responsiveness. it worked for me

The only link I can think of (i'm not a mechanic) is that your old exhaust might have had a partial blockage (rust & soot maybe) that was restricting the exit of exhaust gasses from the engine. Mind you I think if this were the case then it would have affected performance. Have you noticed better acceleration since you fitted your new exhaust?
If you've changed the exhaust catalyst then this might have affected exhaust gas flow.
yeah that's bad. My old diesel used to do 11 miles per litre. Petrol cars of that age and size should do about 8-10. You're doing about 5. Something not right about the exhaust replacement? Got a tame mechanic you can ask? Other than that, dunno sorry.
You need to establish how many MPG you are getting fill the tank right up reset your speedo trip and work out the consumption after 100 miles .It could be many things have you any warning lights on esp the one that looks like a cyl block with a lightning falsh on it ? if so your eng managment has detected a fault that will need fixing.Hope this helps Mick
there not as good very thin an noisy an there is not much in th differance price wise but its worth getting the better 1 but id get a full service first you might just need a good service
The new exhaust should allow a free flow of fumes to the atmosphere and produce better performance. I think your problem has more to do with the engine itself than with the exhaust.
Have the car serviced with special attention to.
clean or replace the spark plugs
clean or replace the air filter
replace the fuel filter.
These actions usually improve the performance of vehicles and don't cost much.
