I recently got flashed by a Gatso speedcamera, is it true that they have to b calibrated to count as evidence?
Ive had a clean licience for 10 years and want to keep it that way!
Answers:
If you were flashed in late May you could be really lucky if you have not already received a letter. Not all Gatso cameras are loaded with film, so sometimes when they flash you still get away with it if you are really lucky.
Unfortunately after 17 clean years, I got distracted by my kids in a 30 zone and was zapped on 1 June. I wasn't so lucky. I have already received my notification from the police through.
The other good news is that you may be offered a Speed Awareness Course in which case you don't end up with any points on your license. That is what I am doing.
Fingers crossed for you that the Gatso wasn't loaded! Failing that, that you get offered a course.
Yes , its a bit risky now to downgrade by trying to remove IE7. They share files or overlays some files on IE6 when you upgrade so you will have to use the ADD/Remove program option in your control panel to remove IE7.
Then go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai. and download and install IE 6.0 again.
If you speed you run the risk of prosecution, it's not the best way to keep your licence clean.
You ran the risk and got caught, accept your punishment and stop wasting the courts time and the taxpayers money.
I would imagine if you take this to court that the burden of proof will be yours. You will be required to prove that the camera was taking false measurements of speed and that at the time it caught you it inaccurately measured your speed. I doubt you will achieve this and financially it will be much simpler to pay the fine. Sorry.
When the camera takes a photo it measures speed with its radar.
But it takes two photos 0.5 secs (IIRC - check this) apart. The markers on the road surface are a known distance apart, this is used to work out your speed manually. (How many markers you've moved in the 0.5secs)
The results from the Radar and the speed calculated from the photo must match to within +/- 0.5mph (again IIRC - check this!).
If not then you might have a leg to stand on. If not, your speed was checked by the radar and confirmed by the photos - pay your £60! - Of Course if it goes to court the fine can rise to £1000 and 6pts.
The story i heard was when you are sent the speeding offence, you then ask for a calibration report, then if your lucky you dont hear anything again? i hope im able to e-mail you through yahoo? i would like to know your end result?
If you want to keep your clean licence then slow down. SPEED KILLS YOU SELFISH BASTARD!
