How many lessons roughly does it take to pass your driving test?

I can drive an automatic, Just need to get to grips on the gears.

Answers:
ive had about 100 lessons, 8 tests and STILL cant pass so am officially giving up!! I think it depnds on the person to be honest. Good luck! (and everyone stop laughing lol!)
most people would take 3-5 lessons starting off and then nearer the time take another 3-5 lessons depending on your confidence
In Belgium, you have to take up to 20 lessons!
It took me 17 lessons, mainly because the instructors were too scared to be in the car with me.. I took my test after 17 lessons, and failed.
From my own experience, when I learned driving on a gear-shift car, it took me about 18 lessons. But that was in a countray where driving lessons are compulsory and you cannot just drive with you da and learn that way.

It may take you only 5 lessons if you are dealing with an automatic and you can do additional practice with a licenced driver.
The average person in the UK takes 40 lessons! apparently? xx
In South Africa It usually takes 6 - 10 lessons depending on how well you handle the car.
My brother passed with about 6 lessons, but he learnt mainly by experiance, and almost every evening my dad would take him out and he'd drive around. I'm still learning and only on my 2nd lesson!
Gears aren't too hard, 0-10 mph has the 1st gear
10-20 has the 2nd gear
20-30 has the 3rd gear
30-40 has the 4th gear
40+ has the 5th gear. See?
In the UK it is reccomended that you take up to 20 lessons to be able to work on manouvers such as left reverse and turn in the road. Also the extra experience improves slow speed manouvers etc.

Hope this helps
In America, you take driving class for entire school year: nine months. They put you on a simulator, or at least they USED to, teach you basic driving laws, then let you drive in the city and drive other drivers nuts.
Fortunately, these driving cars are clearly marked so that people like me who have driven for 30 years and can handle a tire blowout at 67 mph can get the heck out of their way.
Now.the lessons are real time, but remember: there is always an instructor with a brake pedal on the PASSENGER side to stop any accident forseen.
Truly, a year of practice and study is the best idea.
Wrapping a car around a tree is the result of not learning how driving can be dangerous and it is NOT recommended.
if your confident driving an automatic then you probably only need a couple, or why dont you take test in an automatic then if you still want a manual licence take that test later on,thats wot i done as i just couldnt do gears originally. ps driving an automatic is great anyway,no stalling or hill start probs. good luck wotever you decide
Please don't pay any attention to people who give you a speed listing and the gear to be in - Most modern cars don't like being in 4th gear at 30 mph!

Apart from the obvious strain on the engine and gearbox by being in the wrong gear at the wrong speed, if you do 30 in 4th then you start to creep over the speed as you can feel the car struggling. Also, being in 4th doesn't give you the option of getting out of any potential trouble situation if you need to - You have no acceleration at that speed.

Each car is different as gearboxes vary - with practice you'll get to know what gear is best for your speed based on the road and traffic conditions.
my boyfriend has had 16 lessons and he will be taking his test soon
if you already confident with the manoeuvres - reversing etc, and the highway code, then it shouldn't take you very many.

If you need to learn all your "roadcraft" stuff too, i would guess 15+.

When i learnt i found it was best to go out with someone you know until you are pretty good and then pay an instructor to bring you up to test standard.

I did it that way and passed first time..good luck!
having dated a driving instructor some time ago I can tell you they work on an average (if you are starting from scratch) on 1 lesson for every year of your life, so if you are 22 you will have 22 lessons etc etc.
