Why are the doors to the cockpit not locked?
Answers:
Locking reinforced cockpit doors became manditory after 9/11 on all north american airliners. Before, they had cheap locks that no one used and the doors were light and easily destroyed.
The new doors are reinforced with Kevlar and high strength hinges and latches. They have two locking systems, a delayed coded electronic one for use in flight that can be disabled by the pilots to deny entry, and a manual dead bolt for use on the ground and emergencies. The dead bolt can also deny key entry.
The only reason for a pilot to leave the cockpit in flight is to use the washroom, pre and post 9/11.
Not in America. From the moment the plane leaves the gate until it arrives at the destinations gate, the cockpit door is bolted shut. There are certain circumstances when the pilot is allowed to leave during flight, but one flight attendant is replaced in the cockpit and the door gets bolted shut again until the pilot gets back. If you saw someone other than the flight attendant, just walk into the cockpit during flight than thats a problem.
You are mistaken. The door to the cockpit is locked. Usually the flight attendant that needs to speak to the pilot and the pilot know when to unlock and lock the door. From takeoff to landing, the door is shut and locked except for drinks and stuff.
They are locked.
If you ever see an airline with a door that is not locked/closed, please report it to the FAA/homeland security. These guys in these agencies might be a bunch of shmucks but somebody needs to enforce what laws we do have on the books and keep the security holes closed!
unfortunately in these days of terrorism and hijacking cockpit
doors have to be strengthened and kept locked.
the reason the door is open are NUMBER of reasons pilot walks around the aircraft with his or hers check list .A feuler sheet, dangerous goods sheet many, reasons people(employees) have too go up to the cockpit
I think you'll find they are locked and can only be opened from the inside, and have been for many years, mid 90's I believe, therefore it is somewhat strange that the 9/11 hijackers got into the cockpits so easily, don't you think?
they are
i'm sure the cockpit doors are locked from the inside because i remember reading a story about a pilot who left the cockpit and shut the door behind him then couldn't get back in, they ended up having to unbolt the door from the frame.. thought pilots were supposed to be intelligent.lol
BECZ the air hostest has to come in ..:D with out knocking !
in the post 9/11 era, all doors to the cockpit have been locked (at least in the US and Canada) before 9/11 the doors were left unlocked so that if any passengers wanted to go up to the flight deck and watch the pilots in action or anything like that, but now that is not possible bc 9/11
They should be according to new safety regulations.
the cockpits are locked and re-enforced.
