What is the most cost effective way to improve the accelaration of my 2001 ford focus 2.0zetec esp (zx3 in usa

Ford itself has plenty of improvement parts for your vehicle. Check out www.fordracingparts.com, superchargers, exhaust, etc. Do not cut holes in air box unless you want damaged cylinder bores, do not use nitrous unless you want melted pistons, bottom end not designed for that, neither is the engine management system.
strip it of all weight that is not needed..
A nice Garrett turbo would do also !
nitrous
I agree with hope m..nitrous is the way to go. Turbos are EXPENSIVE.you can get a nitrous setup for a few hundred bucks, if you know where to look. Plus, you don't have to make any mechanical changes to the engine. Turbos can compromise drivability and reliability, especially if not set up and installed properly. Nitrous carries the same risk, but the risk is very minimal as long as you don't go crazy with it and try a 100-hp shot in your Focus. 40 hp would make a nicely noticeable increase in acceleration, and still be safe. And ripping out the interior of the car is just dumb for something that is not strictly a track car. 16-year old kids may like rolling around in a car with the dash, back seat, and carpet gutted out, but I don't.
depends on how much bhp your wanting, easy way to start would be to get it chipped and an induction kit with a de-cat straight through pipe.
Molyslip will add a bit of pep and cut heat and wear, cheaper then anything at £10
you will pick up a few extra horses.
It really does work it is used by several race teams, at Le mans, GT, D1 Drift.
Hey so cheap can't hurt to try.
If you are really into modifying I also import parts and other performance accessories, I have patented my own fuel additive, and will be bringing some No2 systems and turbos in the near future
nitrous or dynamite come on its a focus get a real car then worry about acceleration
drill holes in your air box
Hook a chevrolet to it
Depends by how much you want to improve it
Simple things such as your choice of petrol or oil can improve it slightly. For a more effective increase you could try an air filter with cold air feed, an ecotek valve, taking out the spare wheel for weight.
I found the biggest difference was in the wheels i choose, I have 17's on my car as opposed to the original 15's, there was a noticeable decrease in acceleration because of the added weight.
turbo or supercharger
