How many flights are in the air at the moment?
Answers:
Over the U.S.A. you can go to flightaware.com and see the aircraft with filed flight plans currently in the system. VFR aircraft if not on a filed flight plan will not show up in the numbers. This is just for airspace over the U.S.
Good question. London heathrow airport handles around 1500 flights a day. Same for Paris and Frankfurt. Now if you multiply that by say 40 to get the majority of large airports around the world, you'll have around 60 000 planes per day. Divide by 24 and you have 2500 an hour, or about 42 taking off or landing per second somewhere in the world.
No idea, but what i did read once when i was a child is that every time you breath in our out, somewhere in the world a plane lands or takes off safely.
Don't hold your breath!
