Just wondering about chicanes/traffic calming measures and speedhumps?

In the village where i work they have introduced speedhumps all the way up and down the other side of the hill in and out of the village. There is about 10 humps in total, with about 3/4 giving priority to people going up the hill, then over 3/4 plain humps, then one more going out the village (downhill) giving priority to people leaving the village.
When i drive to work i have to give way to about 100 cars (at least!) tanking through the village, down the hill, bumper to bumper - it has NOT slowed anyone down! Needless to say, a lot of people trying to get into the village have to wait ages and "nip" through when they can.
I was at the give way chicane yesterday morning waiting for a space to go through. There was a gap between cars (the last of the cars were coming through and another man was going over the next speedhump towards me. I took this chance to "nip" through as i had been waiting for ages. He put his foot dowm amd flashed me, holding his hands up as he drove past.

I drive artics for a living and have done for about 4 years. At 44 tonnes it has a nought to sixty in about five minuets. It all ways makes me smile when drivers speed away at roundabouts so that I cant get in front of them. In the end I have to pull out on somebody or myself and all the traffic behind me would sit there all day. I hate being thought of as an inconsiderate driver and always try to do the courteous thing and give way whenever practicability allows. However It seems that more and more drivers are developing the attitude of your friend the other day. We are all in this together and its such a nice feeling when every one gives a sensible approach to rights of way on busy roads. Maybe next time your friend might encounter my truck as he tries to intimidate his way through a chicane. Now that wouldn't be a pretty sight !
yeah. Chill out or move house.

or ask your local MP
sadly this is not uncommon where i live there are 24 speed humps before i get to the main road, councils say they are designed to slow people down, particularly people in stolen cars, now lets be serious if you was in a stolen car would you be bothered about slowing down for aspeed hump?? nooo they also cause more enviromental damage as 70% of drivers will speed up in betweent speed humps and then brake for them. Then there are the increased wear and tear on vehicle components to take in to account, brakes, steering, suspension (incedently i have a clean licence and dont speed) i have gone through 3 sets of ball joints in 3 years as oppose to the 1 set in 5 before they where introduced, another arguemant is that they have reduced accidents with small children, fair point but why should small children be on the road anyway ? parental resposibility springs to mind here i know where my children are all the time, so i think they are a politically correct way of calming people down and showing the council is trying to do something instead of making sure children have somewhere to play etc
