We own a new 997 Porsche Carrera 4 with a 0-60 of 4.9 and top track speed of 174. I'd say thats the fastest car ive ever driven in.
i once went 130 in a 300zx and about the same in a mazda rx-2 don't know the limit we were going speedometer was broke went 25 miles in traffic in 7 minutes
A 1.3l Escort, top speed I have got it too is about 85mph!

the fastest car that I have driven is a mates ford capri which now runs 8.9seconds down the quarter mile but it ran 10.02 when I drove it
ive driven faster in a full size pick-up than any of my cars it was a 1984 chevy custom deluxe 10 at 135+ mph
I had the 1966 Dodge Charger with the 383 four barrel carb. It was without luxury frills, not even power steering. The speedometer went to 150mph, I had it at about 140 on interstate 77 through the Carolinas one night in the late 70's.

My TVR Griffith 500, on a private road I had 165 MPH and it was still pulling. It would also spin the rear wheels at 120mph in the wet which meant being very careful. My previous Mitsubishi Evo 6 felt very slow in comparison.

Mazda 323 1.6i Turbo, had about 140mph tops, but ran out of road, and also a Renault Clio 1.8 16v with 260bhp. Did 155mph on the same road beat a ferrari until I ran out of road, and he decided to hit the central reservation as he wanted to pass me, I think it was a 348 Ferrari!

I drove my friends, one year old BMW M3, I drive a 150bhp 1.8T passat which i thought was quick. Until i drove the M3 which is simply awesome 0-6 in 5 secs over 350bhp.
Have owned Lotus Elise's, quick around corners but not much at top end, driven a 996 Carrera 4 but the car that felt the fastest and most awesome to drive was a Ferrari 360.
Fastest actually driven was a VW Golf at 120 'ish.
I know somebody who had a 1.25 Fiesta who photographed the speedo at 130mph!

79' 930 Ruf Turbo, with full rollcage, adjustable boost.
Simply shattering, you can see why the govt made the 930 go away for a few years after the 3.3L Turbo made fools out of a lot of people who have a license, but cannot drive.

the fastest car I owned and drove is the 1979 Pontiac firebird (smokey and the Bandit style) took it up to 160 MPH once racing a BMW 750IL. Left that BEEMER by six car lenghts and kept going.
A 2001 966 with a 20,000 turbo upgrade and the computer reprogramed by porch it has 800 horspower and we went 230 mph in it thats when the dotted white line on the road turns into one sold line.WOOHOOO
