What is the current UK penalty for displaying a small numberplate on a motorcycle(below legal size)?

Can be 3 points with or without a fine but unless it's really small the copper would have to be having a bad day to do you for it.
if you talk nicely to mr police person they might let you go with a warning (and i do mean nicely not shove your ticket where the sun never shines from ) worked for me once i did say i would get it replaced by end of week and had one made up showed it to the very nice man that let me off then put little one back on again
I'm not 100% sure but i can imagine that it would be a fixed penalty. i.e 3points with a £60 fine. Pain in the *** i must admit. But what do you do. All the best

it depends on how bad a day the cop who pulls U over has had, mostly they will just tell U 2 get a proper sized one saying that one is illegal

I don't think you get any points, but you get a fine and have to get your bike MOT'd within 7 days to prove you've changed the numberplate back and your road legal, just like the bastards do with a nice race exhaust.

i got a smaller plater next size down from legal but with legal lettering letterbox plates are just asking for trouble tho
depends on the copper, but a fine for sure, and then you have to get the correct plate examined by a test station and then take your little stamped piece of paper to the feds.

A friends son was told to remove the plate on-the-spot, surrender it, and was told that he had to push the bike home as it had no plate. (5 miles).
Needless to say, Pa rode it home for him.
