Aston Martin DB5.a worthy road contender, but the E type comes a close second in my book!
Not the best, but the TVR Tuscan and TVR Cerbera look the part, and are truly frightening at speed because there's no ABS, power steering, traction control, etc. Not for novices.
For pure balls the Ford GT(40) and Dodge Viper take some beating.
Mazda MX5 Affordable, fun and good looking. It ain't no super car but it is within most peoples means.

I care less about the performance of the car and extras than I do the sound - so what if it's a few cc's behind Ferrari and one less cup holder etc. Those TVR's look and sound pretty darn good - and they're raw - no flash technology - when you drive it, it's just you and the car, and that's the way sportscars should be.
