Answers:
The best training he can get is ride, ride and ride. If you have access to a practice track, spend as much time on the track as possible. If you are planning on being his coach, much like the pro-mx mechanics, be there when he is riding. Time his laps and stand in an area where you can see the entire track. Find out the areas of the track that give him problems and keep practicing the hard stuff until he gets comfortable.

Off the track get him involved in the maintenance, repair and set-up of his bike. Most likely you, or your significant other, is going to need a crash course in motorcycle mechanics. Learn to do things like changing tires, doing top-ends, jetting the carburetor and adjusting the suspension. Get him involved in this process as you will need rider input in order to make changes. Make him responsible for cleaning his bike, making sure all the bolts and nuts are tight before a race and all his gear is packed and ready to go.

At 12, I wouldn't recommend any cardio activity, besides riding, or weight lifting for strength. Unless he's a total couch potato/computer geek, most 12 y/o kids have enough strength, stamina and energy if they practice regularly. Outside of that, make sure he eats a balanced diet of carbohydrates, proteins, fibers and drinks plenty of water. In short, cut out the burgers, fries, shakes, potato chips and soda that seem to be the staple in most kids diets these days.
Do you mean weston beach race?If you do.
I raced it about 10 years ago and the only advice is get some bike time in,practice, practice and more practice!
Good luck and most of all make sure he has fun out there!
