bar of soap-hold in hand and rub with pressure--or if leak is to large use j/b weld--just follow instructions--and again the soap trick is for real
there is a product that you can pour in, maybe sold at bike stores ,to line gas tanks, you may need to drain the tank first.
There is an epoxy (cement type) available in the market for sealing leaking water pipes. It may be helpful. After applying & drying the above cement seal, coat the outer side with a solution available from the Fish Aquariam manufacturers. They seal the glass of the fish aquariam with that solution, its transparent resin, like melted plastic.(sorry I cant recall name of that solution).
you can buy stuff for this - a two part epoxy putty - try the local motor factors. I've heard the soap one before, but never tested it.
You need to stop the leak before you can seal it - sounds like an oxymoron doesn't it. Drain the tank below where the leak is so nothing is coming out. Sand the area for good adhesion. Use liquid steel (an epoxy type) and force it into the crack itself. After it sets you can cover the area with more liquid steel or fiberglass.
The best way is to replace the tank other ways are just bodge ups.
