How do i fix the big ends/pistons on a 1993 subaru impreza?
Answers:
If you mean the rod bearings---you have to remove engine.Take off heads and split the block. Not an easy job for the amateur and you need some special tools. Piston have to come out so you might as well rering and hone.
It is not very common for Subbies to knock from the bearings, but it is not unusual for the pistons to knock. You should get the opinion of a Tech familiar with Subbies before throwing parts at it.
You need new big end shells. It's a major job. You have to strip down the engine, disconnect the pistons from the crankshaft and replace the shells.
GET THE MANUAL
It's called "engine replacement"
If it's still running pretty good and will pass smog inspection, forget about a new engine. Run it until you can afford a new CAR
Not being funny but as an engineer take it to a garage, a good one.
The flat four engine in a Subaru are tricky at the best of times and will cost you a lot more to put right if its done wrong, Sorry..
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Wanker
Overhall it!!!!
Best to buy a complete rebuild kit and new pistons. Very rare for this to happen.how many miles? They are called piston skirts. Could be something else though. Hard to say without tearing it down. When you get it apart, you may want to take it to a machine shop and have it bored. I've done this several times.never with a subaru..and I now just save the time and trouble and order a crate motor.
