How old does my 1978 landrover have to be before it qualifies for tax free status?
Answers:
Unfortunately, with existing governnment taxation regulations, your Landie will never be tax exempt. The only vehicles that are tax exempt are those made before 1973. The rolling 25 year age qualification instigated when the Tories were in office were stopped by Labour when they took office, and they froze the qualifying year as 1973.
25 years i think
Wait no longer. Immobilise it, trash it, torch it, dump it. Then you're free from tax. Otherwise keep on paying up infinitely or until someone buys it from you and takes over the tax obligation..
25 years. But your fuel guzzling/environment busting hunk of junk should be off the road anyway.. !
twenty five years, but due to new legislation on fuels it may change,

Some answerers are confusing your question with antique. In Texas all automobiles went off the tax rolls in 1978. Vehichles from 1975 and before are considered antiques.
