I know Nos injection works but how about water injection seen it in magazines ?

How do,s that work is it anything 2 do with hydrogen gas ?

Answers:
Water injection is not direct into the interior of the cylinders, but a cooling spray used to reduce temperature in the manifold and other high temperature areas. This means the engine can operate for longer periods at higher revs, slightly increasing the horsepower.

It also has a similar effect to an intercooler, by reducing the ambient temperature, the fuel/air mixture (or vapour in the case of injected engines) takes up less volume by weight, and therefore more fuel and air (in terms of mass) can be forced into the cylinder, again increasing explosive power and therefore bhp.

As this forms part of an external cooling unit, it (as far as I am aware) does not impact insurance costs, but you may have to declare it as an enhancement.

Only realy has a marked effect (>2%) on top of the range cars, and engines which run VERY hot (track racers etc) and needs maintenance. Nos is still the way forward if you want cheap power!

I agree with chris M, you can use lower octane fuel too. Jules, auto tech and lecturer. Australia.
Water injection systems from the likes of sat "aquamist" (do a search on their site) will inject a fine mist of atomised water into the inlet side of your engines air inlet.

Simplistically, this will reduce the charge temperature and make it more dense. Cooler air is more dense than hot air, hence why your car feels quicker on a rainy day than on the baking heat.

If the air is more dense, then for the same volume/area you will have more air/oxygen and then engine will be able to produce more power.

Water injection will also reduce the risk of detonation or pinking within the engine as the charge temperature is cooler, everyhting else will run cooler.

Old saabs like the saab 99 run very well with water injection.

I have also seen systems (old renault 5 turbos) wher water is sprayed across the front of turbo intercoolers for the same reason. Basicallt helping to reduce the charge temeperature and gain more power from the denser air.
