Is it just an Electra Glide dream?
Answers:
No problem Sid. I have had 5 Triumphs, 4 Bonnys and a Jackpine, I now ride a rebuilt '81 Harley Wide-glide, and have ridden a number of other Harley models, and believe me the Harleys handle smoother than the Triumph did, just don't lay it down, cuz it is somewhat heavier to pick up.
If you can ride a motorcycle you can upgrade with no problems. I assume you are asking if he can make the jump from riding the Triumph to the Harley.
not really but Harleys aren't the sharpest tool in the shed either. The only thing sporty about the sportster (the so called sportiest of the steeds) is the sporting attitude you need, when your dealer gouges you by adding trinkets on a trinket iron horse. Otherwise, it's an uncomfortable lounge chaise.
That being said it's all pretty much outdated material in the modern world. Harley isn't a classic in any ways. Older Harelys aren't worth diddley squat while old brit motorcycles are worth something if in good shape. So I'd personally take a Brit bike over a Harley if I had to choose one.
But then again, whatever floats your boat..
Not such a big leap, really. Bikes are bikes, and both a Triumph laden with a sidecar and a naked HD handle like a bus. The brakes are notional. The reliability is close to nil. He should feel right at home on a Harley.
I went from a Yamaha 250 to a Harley Heritage Softail Classic with no problem. Just be careful not to park on an incline that would cause the bike to fall over. It can be VERY heavy to pick up off the ground by yourself. Harley's are great motorcycles. Todays models are reliable and relatively trouble-free. The ride & feel is like no other make.
