My son has lost his key for his fiat brava x reg 1.2. Dealers say it would cost over £1000. Any alternatives ?

Can anyone help with a cheaper solution to replacing a lost blue key for fiat brava 1.2. There never was a red key, so this is not an option. Dealers are quoting silly money. Is it cheaper to replace the ECU plus new locks, The car is only worth £2000 so costs must be kept down. Would appreciate any useful comments to help out. Long walk to work!! Thanks

It's the red key you need. You say it's not an option however many dealers put this in the fuse box for safe keeping or in with the hand books. Alternatively contact the previous owner from the log book. If you can't get this you are screwed.
You are being ripped off. Change the entire ignition.
go to your nearest TIMPSON if you're in the uk,
i used to work there and they are really helpful when it comes to things like this.
i think £1000 is abit strong, doesn't seem right to me.
Definitely head to a few breakers yards and price it. There should be a plentiful supply of them at a fraction of the cost.
scrap yard buy some second hand locks and change them yourself it carn't be that hard
i lost the key for my fiat uno once. sucks dun'it?

If you can still get in, remove the barrel and take it to a locksmith (with your V5 document of course!) and ask him to lazer-scan it. For me, they managed to fabicate a new key!

2 things though. I dont know if your old key has a chip thingy and also not every locksmith can provide this service. Phone around.
Any Good ScrapYard
Hotwire it
If you have any service history books, you can usually find the original company that registered the vehicle. Sometimes the number plates have the original dealership written on them. However its the original dealership that you need to get in touch with as they will or should retain the code for the keys. With this code you can get a new key made and depending on the type it could cost as little as £30/£40 pounds. I did this recently for my wife's Ford Cougar and this is how I know.
hope this will help i have phoned my otherhalf for the answer hes a mechanic.contact a auto electrician as the imobilizer can be overridden.you could also get 2nd hand locks from car scrapyard.get a reputable backstreet garage if you need any other help that way you are not paying dealers prices.ask people you know if they use any, personal recommendation always good.good luck.from a mother whos son did something similar years ago.ps.try contacting previous owners details on the log book ( v5 registration certificate ) good luck once again.
