What is the validation character on a V5?.?

ie. mine is a Q my friends is a G. what do they mean?

What is the vin number on your V5? The validation character is called a "check digit" but it can only be numbers 1-9 or the letter X. Sounds to me like you both may have the same model of vehicle (and the same year) but have a slightly different trim. You are more than welcome to e-mail me the vin number and I can tell you everything you need to know about it.
I think its to do with vehicle type and use.
