Is it illegal to keep a motorcycle in a flat?

I live on the ground floor of a two-up, two-down block of flats, and I've been told that because of the possible petrol-related hazards, I am not allowed to keep my bike in my flat. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Answers:
Petrol and engine oils are considered hazard substances. Whether your tank is full or empty the residue will still be present. Therefore, it is considered to be flammable and explosive. So it has to be stored in a separate room or construction that is not attached to your your place of residence or work.
it's ok if you let the air out of the tires
Nope. Go ahead and keep it there. As long as you don't run it, keep the floor underneath it clean, and don't open the petrol tank, you should be ok.
Go for it.
Yes if its in America
no jus mk sure you have no leaks
You can keep it in your flat as long as the gas tank is empty.
keep it without the petrol
providing you give it food and water, and clear up its mess, you should be OK.
Probably, depends on your contract. Most have clauses preventing you keeping certain dangerous things in you place. I'm not allowed an oil burning stove.
Fire codes prohibit it.
Depends on the contract you signed. It should be in there if it is to be illegal. Even normal bikes may be illegal.
Done it myself in London. I used to ride straight into the living room.

I guess if you don't own the place, there might be issues though.
Your landlord or other tenants may object, but it is certainly not illegal!
Yes this is correct as it constitutes a fire hazard, a former neighbour of mine was taken to court because he refused to remove his motorbike from his flat. And he was evicted and also fined £300
A drip pan might solve your problem.
just do it
Yes it is, because it as petrol in the tank, I would try making it secure with chains. Outside for your safety and the other people that live in the other flats.
my husband kept his in his 7th floor flat for almost 4 years and nobody said anything about it. he used it every day for work and took it up in the lift every night.
Yes, because of the explosive hazzard. Just ask a fireman.
I hope not, because when I buy the lottery, I'm going to buy a Honda Rune to keep in my living room. Just as decor!
sounds dangerous.any leaking gas fumes would be harmful long-term

also, those gas fumes could be explosive
yes it is 100% illegal to keep a motorcycle in a flat this due to health n safety and also the bike is a fire hazord an then theres the fumes from the petrol ect ect for more info why not contact your local fire bigade station if you dont know where ur local fire station is check with www.yell.com they will have it listed
as long as you are not sleeping with it.
don't see why not. I used to keep mine indoors, the police never said a thing whenever they had cause to visit :)

Just don't park it next to the cooker or the fireplace
