Answers:
The two v slots should face each other at the quarter to three position as on a clock.DO NOT TURN THIS ENGINE OVER OR THE VALVES WILL TOUCH THE PISTONS UNLESS ENGINE IS TIMED THIS WAY.The top dead centre mark is on the bottom crank pulley.Have you removed the camshafts it is possible to get the exhaust and inlet cams mixed up on this engine. Are you fitting a new cam belt or is it head gasget problems??Mike worked on these engines since they came out K seriesThe only pins are in the cam shaft and should not be removed .
get a autodata printout of how to attempt this job.
the two slots should have In for inlet cam position & Ex for exhuast cam position also this engine does not get timed at T.D.C. all pistons are level down the bores(mark on crankshaft pulley lined up).
