Most of it went to build the embankments at the outer ends of the lines or to keep gradients to a minimum, and I know of only one place where the spoil was actually "tipped", and that was at Park Royal, which later became part of the Guinness Brewery site.

to fill areas to landscape, to flatten land- hills etc
use for construction, ie bricks..
