Does toyota celica gt four engine drop into celica 2.oL gt 16valve 1991 with out any complications thanks.

Ihave just purchased a 1991 toyota celica 2.0L GT 16 valve and wondered if anyone could tell me would there be any complications in changing this engine and replacing it with a GT FOUR bearing in mind the origonal is two wheel drive.

Answers:
I have tried this one!
The engine will not fit the bell housing of the gearbox, or the engine mounts, etc.
The amount of wiring and hassle to transfer over 15 year old wiring and computers from a gt4 celica to a gt celica is astronomical.
It is much easier to buy a GT4 and enjoy the Toyota build quality, rather than a home mechanics build quality of a converted Toyota.
However, where there is a will there is a way.
Don't say I didn't warn you though.
If the GT four is 4 wheel drive and the normal GT is only 2 wheel then it will\be nothing to do with the engine itself, but down to an extra part in the transmission system called a transfer box, which is usually situated at the back of the gearbox. This connects drive to the front and the rear axles. On some vehicles its a selectable option but i suspect on the GT4 it will be permanent 4 wheel drive with a difflock switch similar to the Rav 4`s.Engine should be the same as i said, but make sure the gearbox will match up,rather than worrying about the engine
