Which do the market prefere, 2 stroke or 4 stroke in bikes, and why???
Answers:
Depends on the market.
In the US, two stroke street bikes, outside of a few remaining mopeds, small scooters and vintage bikes, simply don't exists anymore.
At the moment (and that's a key word) the MX/SX world favors four strokes.
In off-road racing (GNCC, Enduro, H/S, WORCS, etc) the two stroke still seems to be the king.
The list goes on.
So, what market are you interested in?
The 4 stroke bike will always be prefereed as it gives a good mileage. The 2 stroke has a good pickup but price of gas scares people off
Two stroke motorcycles were popular at one time. They were also very dirty for the environment. The one thing about two stroke that was good is that they were faster. The market preferred them because of that feature.
Four stroke motorcycles are cleaner for the environment. Intake, compression, power, and exhaust strokes are better for the environment.
The newer four stroke motorbikes are superb. The power to weight ratio of a four stroke engine is awesome in the new engines of motorcycles.
The two stroke engines had to do what a four stroke engine does in four strokes in two. It was not efficient or clean.

4 stroke are the prefered these days. The 2 strokes were great for power and speed, but the downsides were that you had to mix the oil and gas, and they made alot of pollution due to burning the oil.
Recon - and this is a guess - 2 stroke must be the worlds most popular - thinking about Far east countries - you know - the whole family - the dog, various plastic buckets,carrier bags and a small very angry beastie in a shakey rattan cage.
Those tuk-tuk things - lots of them
Scooters - (Yuk)- VERY popular in Europe
There appears to be less of us (4 stroke liter + dinosaurs) on the roads !
Possibly the M.C.N could shed light on this - re new bike sales from the big manufacturers ?
For me 4 stroke - power sound smell experience love hate enjoyement frustration pleasure pleasure pleasure pleasure and Damn I look good on the thing !..
