Not sure about IMPREZA but if you read Subaru backwards you get U R A Bus.
it doesn`t mean much but here`s the history lesson.
The Subaru Impreza is a compact car that was first introduced by Subaru in 1993. In addition to filling the small-car market segment among Subaru's offerings in the Japanese, U.S., European (and various other) markets, the Impreza chassis rose to prominence in rally racing more effectively than Subaru's previous contenders. Formerly, Subaru had fielded its larger, mid-size car, the Legacy, for rally purposes. However, as rally competition shifted toward smaller and lighter chassis, Subaru needed a smaller and faster car—a role in which the Impreza was immediately successful and in which the Impreza continues to compete effectively, albeit in more powerful versions than were initially introduced.
It probably doesn't mean anything. Many car companies hire outside firms to pick names that are memorable and unique while evoking some kind of meaning. My guess is that the name is evocative of the word "impressed", and is easy to pronounce and remember in most languages. It sounds simple but car companies pay millions of dollars to pick the right name for a car.
"Impreza" is a coined word, deriving from an originally Italian word, impresa, meaning a badge or motto. In Polish, "Impreza" also means to celebrate, or party.
Unclear, but it appears that it was a made up name - check out these excerpts & links:
"When Subaru introduced its rather bland Impreza, even the "impressive-sounding" name wasn't much help to sales. But once it began making a reputation in rallying (albeit as a wildly different actual car), the name became sexy in the extreme to the boy-racer breed, and the add-ons to the bodywork today reflect that market."

its a japanese word for fuel guzzeling, insurance unfriendly flying machine. ive got one. ha ha
Maybe it doesn't stand for anything. It might be just what they called it. Like Avensis (Toyota) doesn't stand for anything, it's just what they called it.
impressive

Probably just needed a catchy second word to go with Subaru so they though of that, as it rolls of your tongue when you say it.
Like other posts have said it's a coined word, but I would guess it also draws on the English impress(ive)
Big (Japanese) companies usually don't arrive at their brand names without serious thought & research - though it must be remembered that these Jap-lish words that seem so laughable to native English speakers are designed to read / heard by native Japanese speakers first and foremost. If they use or discard the name overseas Subaru HQ really doesn't care.
And before you rip on Japanese speakers English.how's your Japanese ?
It means party.
