Has the airport security messures gone to far?

I am flying out of the uk and find it over the top that i cant take any toothpaste or deodorant in my hand luggage, and the deodorant will explode if it goes in the hold. Have these security messures taken away our humman rights, are they totaly over the top, how come they didnt need these messures 6 months ago?

I agree that some of the rules seem just plain stupid but ultimately I don't mind being searched if I travel by plane. What I do object to very strongly is the attitude of BAA. Last time I came through Stansted it took 2 hours to get through security. I was one of the lucky ones, I caught my plane by the skin of my teeth, many did not. And why the delay? Well, exactly half of the available security booths were staffed. So much for paying huge airport taxes to BAA on every ticket. They need to spend a little of it on the travelling public.
Blame the radicals that are trying to blow them up. Go talk to Osama and tell him to knock it off! The rest of us have to go along with the ride. You can charter aircraft and by-pass all of this BTW..
I understand what you are saying but if you were misfortunate enough to have a family member blown up in mid-air would you think that security measures were too extreme then?

personally whatever measures they want to take i will abide by as long as i am safe, and bugar my human rights!!!!
ask the people who died in 9/11 oh year thats right you cant what about their families ask them if securities have gone too far i think its bloody right to be over-cautious id rather they took my toothpaste away then let a phsyco on the plane with explosives
Its not over the top implemented properly you should feel and be safer.
Listen friend! Do you want to get to your destination in one piece or take an unscheduled break above the Atlantic?!!!

For me (who happens to live in a village by Heathow Airport) any security measures that stop bits of gut landing in my garden is fine by me!

You can buy toothpaste Airside and take it aboard, No cosmetics, unless bought Airside and no liquids at all (unless you have a baby and then you have to drink some yourself in front of security)

Heathrow have had extra security measures in place for months. And fair play to em!
The cheapest form of security measures. Our inconvenience doesn't matter to airports. What matters is not to waste money employing more security staff and more security check points to make our lives much easier. Greedy b$%£^*s
Given the current climate, if the authorities think doing something will improve safety I'm quite willing to go along with it.

The reason the measures weren't in place 6 months ago is perhaps because they'd not been thought of. As the terrorists develop their ideas, so security must develop theirs, or face planes being flown into buildings or bombed.

It's not long since a terrorist plot was foiled from people taking on board "water" bottles. If that can be used as an explosive, it's not inconceivable that the items you mention could be too.
Your deodorant will NOT explode in your checked baggage. If you are worried about that, start using a non-aerosol type.

But to answer your question. No.
no, people have.
To tell you the truth, I don't think it's secure enough. My brother flew from Ft. Worth to Birmingham, AL a couple of weeks ago and before he went back he handed me a pocket knife that he had accidentally brought with him. It was a very small one that he usually carried in his wallet. He had forgotten about it and the metal detectors apparently didn't notice it. He realized he had it when he was putting new pictures in his wallet. No, security at the airports is a joke.
Well how would you feel coming down to ground from 30,000ft without a parachute. Probably not a lot as you would be unconcious anyway, if not already dead, however, from your comments, I have no doubt you would have been one of the few people able to get their life jackets on. It is all to do with levels of terrorist threat as perceived by the security services. If you don't like it, don't fly. No doubt you would be the first in line to complain about the the security services, should, by some mishap, you survive a terrorist attack,.
I think that airport secuirty needs to be tightend very strictly because i have noticed one time well flying one very huge weekness somebody could easly hijack a plane by doing this (of course im not gonna say what it is) so we need to even take secuirty even farther
