I have a Rover 25 with CVT auto gearbox.There is a "whining" sound.Any suggestions?.It's only done 31K.

Answers:
Rover cvt gearboxes normally whine has it become progressively worse. It has a multi link steel chain that drive an expanding pulley system. This is noisy system.Plus on a Rover you dont have a torque converter to cushion the drive but a direct drive into the gear box.I have worked on these boxes and done Rover training courses on cvt transmissions.Check your oil level and ask a Rover specialist to give you an opinion on this Regards Old crow
whinning sound comming from gear box usually means low gear oil, check the oil level, and it is usually a good idea to change the gasket in the gear box when this happens. you could fill it back up and see if it will resolve it, but if the gasket leaks, then you will be right back to square one
tires, check the air cond., anything new to the exterior?are there grease fittings on u-joints?anything stuck underneath that you may have picked up? Good luck
Its a bad car anyway, get a new car thats not a rover
