Do you need a bike licence to ride a trike?
I know that even with your car licence (held since 88) you still need to sit that darn annoying CBT and pain in the *ss Theory Test before you can take even a 125cc bike on the road. But is it the same for a trike and/or quad?

the answer is yes, at least in NY a trike is still considered a motorcycle.
for the record i'm not aware of any quads or trikes that are street legal. If your refering to a trike ie harley with three wheels that is street legal then yes you need a riding lisence.
A three-wheel motorcycle is still a motorcycle. Most quads cannot be licensed for highway/road use. Yes, you need a M/C endorsement for a trike. If you ride a quad, you will probably get your license pulled.
I think it depends on what it is classifed as by the DVLA.
In simple terms:
If you sit ON it - motorcycle..sit IN it - car.
If it's fitted with seatbelts (some BIG trikes are), may be classified as a 3 wheeled car - so no helmet reqd either.
Quads - probably need a CBT as they are nearly all classified as motorcycles.
i don't think so you don't have to wear a helmet either,you can now get road legal sports quads such as raptors there fun for green laning and you can drive them on a car licence in the uk but you can't beet two wheels so do your direct access ang get a supermoto you won't regret it

Our Governor, Arnold Swartzenegger, got busted for riding a motorcycle without an M1 licence, but because he had his sidecar attached at the time it was considered a 3-wheeler - so no M1 licence was needed.

I saw an amazing harley trike the other day, both riders were not wearing helmets, so I guess they might slip through the legislation
no you dont u can use these machines with a car licence because there are classed as a three wheeled veachle so no need for skid lid and u only need a full driveing licence
In Britain you cannot ride a trike on a bike licence you can only 'drive' one on a car licence.
The law was changed only a couple of years back. This really disappointed my other half he doesn't have a car licence only a full bike one, we wanted to get a trike to share but he has to get in a car and learn that first.
So as far as I know you can go ahead and get a trike. Have fun!
The mention of "CBT" shows this is a UK thread, guys. US law does not pertain over this side of the pond. Yes, you need a bike licence. Yes you need to pass CBT to ride a bike/trike/quad on UK roads. If you already know how to ride, CBT is easy. But you WILL learn something!
