Would having an expired tax disc or mot certificate make car insurance invalid?

You can still be insured on this car provided it is not on the road . if it is being used you are breaking the law anyway and your insurance would most definate be void , However you can still have the insurance on if it is parked in your garage or driveway. ( You are then still covered for fire & theft of the car from your drive / garage ) But in the case of the latter i would still inform the insurance company to let them know there is no m.o.t / tax But you would still like cover whilst it is parked on your property . Any pay out would be minimal as it woul be concidered as scrap value only .

I'm pretty sure if your car isn't MOT'd it invalidates your insurance. not sure about the tax tho.

If you have no MOT then your car isnt roadworthy, if you have no tax disc then your car should have a SORN notice applied. Your insurance therefore wont cover you as your driving a car which legally shouldnt be on the public road.
I know that not having an mot makes the insurance invalid. As the insurance is given on the fact the car has been tested road worthy. Not sure about the road tax though. But it wouldn't suprise me if it was a yes for that as well, any thing so the insurance company can get out of paying.
Both will void insurance, my mate paid £8,000 for her new car and insured straight away but decided to tax the following day, it got nicked that night and she could not claim as it was invalid!

However, if you were driving without tax or MOT then that would be a different matter. You do not need to show an insurance certificate to get an MOT either, but you do to get a tax disc, you do not need to have an MOT or tax disc to insure a car.
