Would a power commander make much difference to a 929 fire blade?

Answers:
Yes.
deff they work great put one on my buddys bike and messed with the air fuel mixture till we got it doing wheelois in 3rd gear
Yes, I've had power commanders on three bikes and noticed significant gains, especially if you have a good quality header system. You should be able to see a 10-20% increase in power, and the system makes the bike less "peaky" (like a dirt bike) and smoother throughout acceleration.
YES!

Even if you didn't need the power gains, the drivability is soo much better.
I have a Power Commander and Akrapovic slip-ons on my Honda 919. The system doesn’t really give you more horsepower but better performance throughout the rev range and the sound of the cans is bloody nice.

To gain a power increase you need to change the entire exhaust system, the air filter and have it tuned in on a dyno by someone who knows what they are doing.
You will get a noticable difference in throttle response and and increase in both HP and Torque, "IF" you do the job right, by adding freer flowing exhaust and air breather, re-mapping the computer chip, and having the bike set up on a Dynamometer.
