Can you help?
I am toying with the idea of sticking a more up-to-date diesel engine in my 69' VW camper for performance and economy's sake, but would it have to be VW (eg out of a Passat), are are the two eras so far reomved it wouldn't actually make much difference?
Thanks guys
Answers:
Yes its possible and if you have a look at a renault 21 and its gearbox you'll find it can be done ( as that gearbox can be set to run bothways ) the adding of water cooling is a bit of a faf though
The Passat may be able to do same trick with its gearbox if so it would be best to put in the box as well and then just mate to the half shafts Good Luck with this and dont forget to up rate brakes and shocks to match
A different engine maynot unite to the gearbox, no problem, drill it out. If you go for a higher CC engine than the original you will have to update the brakes as well
you can do anything if you have the knowledge and the technology
ant should be OK just need wiring loom and to tell the insurance company
Yes to the insurance
Not a good idea as a modern diesel as a lot more torque this will destroy your gearbox and
you will have change you fueltank and fuel lines
and fit a servo to your brakes and have a engineers report for you insurance ?
Who gives a fcuk, just do it.
I'm no car buff, but I love the old VW Campers.
If you can keep the mother going, do it.
