I'm getting fuel in my oil and its smoking and using alot of gas in my 94 cougar 4.6?

Answers:
lol.i'm a ford parts guy and some of the answers you're getting are ridiculous! fuel in the oil means either you have a bad fuel pressure regulator, or a bad fuel injetor. you can't get fuel in the oil from bad rings.
Um, you don't get fuel in your oil, it is oil in your fuel. Might want to get your head gasket checked out. Usually goes for around $2k.
The rings are shot. Maybe the WHOLE engine is shot. Worn out rings allow unburned mixture (fuel) into the crankcase.

After you replace the eng., change the oil occasionally.

BIGMAN: get out of the car parts business. You don't know SQUAT (about rings, anyway). Have you ever heard of BLOWBY? It's burned AND unburned fuel escaping PAST the rings. (into the crankcase) The word "smoking" is the clue here
Rings Dude. Your piston rings are worn and need to be replaced. This will cost Mucho-$$$ but fortunately, a 94 Cougar should be pretty easy to deal with. You're probably also running on very bad plugs . they will get all carbonized with this problem too . it will also affect your entire fuel system.

Bottom Line: Your Baby has a serious heart condition and needs medical attention before further (more expensive) damage is done. It will only get worse and will lead to total ceizure of the motor.

Hint: You might look around for a replacement motor, it might be cheaper and better in the long run. Just make darn sure you find a good, honest mechanic shop (this isn't something you probably want to try on your own).

Dude, I'm so sorry to break the bad news, but you're pretty Phucked here. It's the rings and if you don't correct it real soon, it will be the whole darn motor. Your're probably looking at $1,800 - $3,500 for this .

Stop driving it immediately and if you absolutely must, be very gentle and don't plan on it starting up again . don't go too far from home. You run the risk of blowing a head or worse.

This is pretty serious. Sorry Dude.
Too much fuel pressure, engine running too cold
Quite agree with Bigman, usually this is caused by faulty injectors ( leaking when engine stopped ) Which will leak past rings good or bad.

A faulty fuel pressure regulator will usually result in a lot of waste fuel in the plenum chamber, and can be easily checked by removing the vacuum pipe from the regulator and seeing if fuel comes out, it should be dry.

So before you yank the lump out for a rebuild pull the injectors and get them tested.
probably the fuel pressure regulator.
samething happened on my pick up
u can get a used engine from the junkyard for 600 bucks.. dude make sure it has all highway mles on it and that u will wana check the oil to c that its clean. get 1 with low miles or highway miles. cougers are eassy to work on, the rings are most likely shot.. my dads dogge dynasty did that till she overheated one day and that was the end.. we just left her on the highway. was a great car!!
I would have to agree with the "rings" group on this one. Worn rings and/or cylinder walls will allow unburned fuel into the crankcase, thinning the oil, and cause catastrophic engine damage and possibly an engine fire. The good news is that this is not the worst thing (yet) to happen to an engine, (but is close) but does allow you to do some upgrades to a very strong platform. I would use this to have the block honed, maybe over bored if needed(if the cylinder walls are too badly scored) change to a different piston/rod combination, and have some new Trick Flow aluminum heads for higher compression and more power. Might as well make lemonade.
Good luck & have fun!
Steve.
I disagree with one of the previous posts, you CAN get fuel on your oil, usually due to bad rings, bad timing or bad ignition. take the easy way out first, buy new plugs and wires, then put in an oil additive, such as motor honey or stp. that should run you $35-40. I would skip the engine rebuild, tho. you would better off to "ride that horse until it dies" Its a 1994 model and it has served it purpose.
piston rings. sounds like you have a lot of miles on the car or just poor maintenance. either way its time for a new motor before it lets you sitting
Sounds like your rings are worn. As a temporary fix, there are additives at the auto parts store you can buy for your oil to swell the rings. "No Smoke" "Lucas" (has the car sat for a very long time? if so it may stop smoking after a half hour or so.)

You could have the compression on the valves checked but it is probably time to get a new car.

Good Luck.
