a ministry of transport test is a test of the cars roadworthiness on british roads. The chap/lady in the garage will test all your exterior lighting, suspension, all undercarriage fixtures and fittings, and the cars emmisions to see if it will pass UK emmisions levels. Dont worry yourself too much about this, as your car will only normally fail if the CAT is shot to bits, and they do give you a margin of error in the pass and fail dept. They also check the Brakes on the car on a rolling road to check to see if the brakes have sufficient output to stop the car safely. Also check your discs for corrosion ( as my car stood for three months and the front ones looked like the titanic, He failed it) also make sure your tyes have plenty tread. The UK minimum is 1.6mm and you can check this by looking for "tread markers inbetween the grooves in the tyres tread which resemble small lumps. He will fail you if they are under 2mm, and if they are bald, you are risking heavy fines if stopped by the police. If you know someone who knows a little about cars get them to have a look at the brake pipes and if so give them a coat of hammmerite paint, and get them to check the CV boots on the front Steer axle. these look lilke robber concertina type boots which split in time and can cause steering problems.happy motoring! lol
