Good choice! I ran one for 2 years. The only major thing that goes wrong is the regulator/rectifier goes pop (common Honda problem) You can get a new one from electrex.co.uk for around £40 or ask a breakers for a CBR600 one (they both the same)
Engine wise, you will need to drain the radiator to get the front plugs out (you'll soon get the knack!) run a load of redex through the bike to clean the fuel system. The brake callipers will also need stripping, cleaning quite often to prevent sticking (they are twin piston sliding pin type and were renowned for sticking)
Bridgestone battlax tyres are about your only decent option due to the weird sizes fitted.
You will also need an intelligent 4 year old with small hands or ratchet knuckles to do the valve gaps!
all in all a great bike and you will have lots of fun on it. it is comfortable enough to tour on too (went scottieland on mine)
spares are not a problem and can be found at David silvers and nightingales of rugby
The engine sounds great (its those gear driven cams!) and has good mid range for a 400. She should do about 125mph give or take. If you blow the engine up then you are a tw*t as they are totally bulletproof!
have fun and just admire that single sided swing arm!
make sure it isnt stolen
