Can someone tell me the difference between a scrambler and a motorcross bike ?

Which is better for someone who only has road bike (chopper) experience ? And any clues to a best buy ? Thanks in advance

A scrambler is a road bike either styled to look like a dirt bike or conversly it is the road verion of a off road race bike.

A motorcross bike is just an off road bike, usually it runs no battery and uses a magneto instead of an alternator as it does not need to power lights, cooloing fans, turn signals or sit in traffic.

If your only road experiance is choppers then be prepared for the wonderful world of numb bums, patheticly short tank ranges and a riding position that makes you a sail..So not so different from choppers!

An easy introduction to a scrambler style bike would be a BMW F650, getting cheap now and are quite nimble and are a comfortable road machine that can be taken off road if you feel the need. Most of these style of bike are single cylinder and once upto about 60mph they start to feel a bit breathless. At about 80mph most are out of breath and so are you from hanging on. I'd stick with a chopper or get something like a triumph tiger triple instead.
they have different names.and i have 2 points hahahahaha
Scrambler was an old name for motocross. Best buy is mainstream japanese with lazy 4 stroke engine. many have have high seat heights, if you are not around 6 foot plus then make sure you can reach the ground - before it reaches you!
A scrambler and a motox bike are the same thing, just 30 years apart. Both are pure competition machines with no rider comforts other than those needed to allow it go fast over rough terrain.
A trail bike has similar styling, but is usually equipped for the road too, with lights and speedo. Obviously due to the greater weight and a more road bias, these are less capable off road than a pukka competition bike.

Go for a jap machine, not european because as a beginner you may not appreciate the constant maintenance (every ride) that a highly strung european machine demands. Japs are in general much less maintenance intensive.
scramblers usually were lower than motocross bikes and some had lights, the motors were tune milder with less maintenance.
Hmmmmm. The word "scrambler" obviously has different meanings to different people.

In my experience, a "scrambler" is a street-legal motorcycle with some light off-road capability, similar to the new Triumph 850 Scrambler (See link below.) Most people today would call these dual-sport or enduro bikes, and the best of the type are the BMW GS motorcycles.

A Motocross bike, on the other hand is a pure off-road bike specifically set up for the sport of motocross racing. Not much good on the street, and some of them are even difficult to ride in the dirt.

If you're looking for a bike that is well mannered on the street, but still has some off-road capability, then go for the dual-sport or scrambler motorcycle.
