Why does it always smell like feet in Bank tube station?

Has anyone ever noticed that it always humms of stinky feet walking from the central to the northern line?

Answers:
I noticed that the other day.. and I dont know!
Makes a change from smelling of pee from all the leaking sewer pipes.
The more I hear of the tube, the more unsavory it seems. I always assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that the London undergrounds were a premiere mode of mass transit long before the LIRR of New York was even chartered.

Am I wrong?
The unusual odour of the Deep level tube lines has been noticed ever since the opening of the Central London Railway (IIRR 1899). It's endemic to the system.

As per the US correspondent. The Tube moves vast numbers of London Commuters, but the system is definitely showing its age.
