Boyfriend having trouble with his bike?

My boyfriend bought a Chinese bike a month ago through a mechanic we know.

He did an oil change at 500 miles himself because he couldn't get the 40 miles out to the mechanic. The change was fine.

So he did another one at about 1900 miles, exactly the same way. He took the bike out for a quick ride afterwards and it was fine. On his way to work the next morning, the engine started to make a clanking noise, then died. He tried starting it but it didn't work.

He managed to get the bike to the mechanic. When he looked at it, he said there was no oil in it. My boyfriend had done it all right though and put plenty of oil in there. The engine had completely seized due to the lack of oil in the engine. We found a patch of oil on our drive but the mechanic says there's no leak.

He doesn't know what to do. It's going to take 10 weeks for a new engine to come and cost about £400. Any clue to what could have happened and is it likely to happen again? Anyone else have this problem?

Answers:
It has to leak from somewhere otherwise little green aliens took the oil out coz they needed it for their flying thing.
To be honest, I think he must just have forgotten to refill with oil. Logically there isn't anywhere the oil could have gone to
He must have simply forgotten to fill the engine with oil.

was the patch of oil big enough to realistically think all the oil leaked out? Is the bike parked outside at night? does your boyfriend have any enemies that may have drained the oil one night?
he must be fit to pedal that sort of mileage when does he find time for you
Your boyfriend may have filled the wrong cavity with oil. Check your transmission. I am not sure which bike you are talking about so it's hard to tell if the transmission cavity is connected to the primary chain cavity. Either way, I suspect that one of the other cavities are overfilled with oil and the motor was running dry causing a meltdown. I hope this makes sense. Some oil can spill from the vent tube causing the mess where you parked.
One last thing, you wrote that there was a patch of oil where you park. Are you sure that the oil plug was tight?
Good luck
Can't tell you exactly what happened. Although, tell your boyfriend in case it ever happens to him again , if you put oil in before a seized engine cools completely, it should unseize it.
hey man I want some of those drugs he's taking..
Probably left the sump plug loose and it vibrated out, dumping the oil. He is lucky to be alive because oily tyres are not known for their grippiness.
Dont buy Chinese bikes! Was this a Baimo by any chance; know someone who bought one just over a year ago and it has been in the garage 27 times in that time.and it still sounds like ****!
I think your boy forgot to tighten the drain plug, Its easily done. Either that or ,worrying that he would strip the thread, he did not tighten it enough and on the test ride it span out a little allowing it to start to leak. This bike would not hold much oil to start with probably about 1 to 1.5 litres depending on make. That amount of oil if it leaked out slowly overnight would not leave a big patch on the drive as it would have time to soak into the ground.

Is the bike back with you? if so remove the plug and spray in a real good dose of WD-40 down the plug hole, leave it overnight and then rock the bike back and forth while in gear (2nd will do) if just the piston has seized then this will unstick it. Next time he does a post oil change ride, just go outside about half an hour after and check for leaks and oil level.
it sound to me like either the engine is burning oil.and using up the oil that was put in there.or the oil pump is not working.

If the engine is burning the oil there should be an oily residue in your exhaust. The only fix I know of would be to rebuild the engine anyways. Your better off getting a new engine.
it would be helpfullif you said what bikeit was.
Chinese bikes are generallypoor quality and your best buying at least a used Japanese bike, which most china bikes have ripped off.

If your bike is a honda twin copy of the cb125t, these honda engines would suffer oil starvation on sidestand, due to the fact the oil pump feed is on the right. So its possible to sieze a Honda cb125t by leaving it running on is sidestand and letting it grind the camshaft into the head.

When the engine was removed was the crank case damaged in any way??
