Answers:
I don't know about that particular year, but renaults have been voted as one of the top safe cars in the last few years. I've had my clio for 4 yrs and its still perfect and has never broken down.
hmm its got brakes
Well no-one's going to steal it.
it has a roof to keep out the rain
getting out of it, closing the door behind you, not looking back.

That's fairly safe..
mmmmm?

its go door handles so you can bail out if your going to crash.

not good cars to have a crash in. tin of beans springs to mind!
Clios weren't invented at the time of E-reg plates!?
Clio was not around on E plates it was not until year 2000 that they got a decent safety rating.
#1) They don't go fast enough to do any damage when the brakes fail and crash
#2) They usually don't run long enough to crash
#3) No self respecting criminal would car-jack you
Well, its got a bonnet if you get hit from the front, doors if you get hit from the side and a space behind you if you get hit from the rear! As for getting stolen, just buy a steering wheel lock!
Renault Clio was still on the design board in 1987-1988 (E -Reg). It didn't hit the road until 1991.

So the car you are thinking about is either a Renault 5 or has a private Reg on it
