Where can i get my first race/track bike from ?

Im starting racing and i need to find a good bike to start of on.
Im thinking about getting a 600 but cant really find any places that sell them only ebay.

I have seen a few cbr600 sf's but nothink that has caught my eye.

Any help on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

Try a motorcycle salvage yard, if you want it to race and not to register that would be your best bet. You will be able to find a bike that has been down for a reasonable price. Since you want to race it you will be junking the lights and whatnot, all the things that get broken in a crash and contribute to the high cost of repairing the bike by the insurance companies. In short, the cosmetic damage was costly enough for an insurance company to declare it totalled. Often these are low mileage bikes too.
You can go on the manufacturers websites like Suzuki.com, Honda.com, Yamaha.com, or Kawasaki.com. You can find all the different sport bikes they make and usually they have a dealer locator's to find your nearest dealer.
try http://www.craigslist.org/ ..(find your city).it's great.
Dude, go to the track. A lot of riders will bring their old bikes to offload. A used machine, already set up for the track, will be a great way to get into it and if you find out racing is just not for you, you won't be in too deep financially.
Ebay is not a bad place to start, but there are better places.

Local race club - find out what organization races at your local tracks and attend those events. You'll find people selling their bikes and can get newsletter/website information.

Bike forums - probably the best place to go. The problem is that you need to find out the best local forum. Searching on the web should return results for most any cbr, r1, zxr/ninja, gixxer, or ducati club. Some racing news websites also have classified ads, like superbikeplanet.com.

Somebody mentioned craigslist.not a bad place, but not anywhere near the level of online biker forums.
I got a 600 Yamaha ready to race..sell cheap, no title, bike is fast and won a few a club races.
Read MCN forn several racr / track ready machines, gauge prices but be prepared to walk away for anything that feels dodgy as obviously, guys will try and sell off a bent bike.

Go to a track and if you see a bike you like, ask if it's for sale , can you have a test ride etc. Many track bikes are stolen / recovered so no title but that doesn't mean you should discount them.

All track bikes are thrashed so look for signs of over-abuse / spills etc.

Negotiate hard. And don't fall off on a test ride OK?
uktrackbikes.com
they do just track bikes and can even try and get what you want if they hav'nt got it. They deliver too!
Check this. I can get you a 2002 R-6 (about 2,000 miles on it is all) great shape for around $3,600.00. It would have to be for track use as it cannot be titled. Give me a yell at stormyt@rock.com for questions.
