Golf gti mk2 keeps losing power and battery going flat alternator been replaced any idea wot this could be?

Sounds like it still is not charging, does the no charge warning lamp come on when the ignition is on but the engine not running, this bulb failing will stop a new alternator charging, change this bulb first, then put a volt meter across the battery, (£4.99 from maplin if you dont have one) and check that you have at least 14 volts with the engine running, tickover and at cruising revs 3000 or so, just because the alternator is new dont mean it is any good, if less than 14 or not slowly rising towards 14 volts, there is an alternator fault, perhaps just a loose drive belt, but when running with a good alternator the battery is just about un nescessary so it aint a faulty battery.
Check the battery water. If there's no water in the battery it would NOT keep any charge.
IF the water level is good then you need to change the battery itself as the cells would have died, in which case the battery will also NOT hold any charge from the alternator, and would drain flat as soon as you switch off the engine.
Good luck
sound like you have some current draw on the battery, if it goes flat when you are not driving i suggest you remove one battery terminal, negative one, then just touch the battery lead against the battery terminal, if you have everything turned off, that is ignition off, doors shut you should not get a spark when you touch these together, if you have access to an amp meter you can use this on the battery lead and battery terminal with everything off and there should be zero current draw,
hope this helps you
These all sound like good suggestions and could very well be the problem, but here's one I didn't hear anyone suggest.
The voltage regulator. It controls charge the battery gets while driving the car. If it's bad, then it isn't allowing the charge and the car is running off of the battery instead of the alternator like it should be.
I'm not real sure of the mechanics of cars any more with all of the 'it's built into this or that' systems they put on them. But the voltage regulator, the alternator, and the battery are all dependent on each other to keep the car running and the battery charged.
Take it to a shop or get some one who knows what's going on with them and have it looked at.
And remember that new or refurbished parts don't always equal "good" parts.
check the connectors on battery terminal are they tight enough or need cleaning!
Try tightening up your alternator belt.
Reason Mk2 Golfs just splutter to halt is carb icing. Make sure there is a pipe form the exhaust manifold to your air intake.
