I want to buy a Moped for inner London. Which one should I go for?

I have no idea about such things I just know I want one, for zipping across town (London) and because I am about to embark on learning the London Knowledge. Any recommendations for where to buy one would be great.

Mine's a vespa ET4 125cc, which I'd definitely recommend.

Vespa are reliable and soundly built (metal panels rather than plastic, so they don't collapse when you (inevitably) get a few scrapes. Also 17 year old boys don't think they're that sexy so they don't get nicked as much as the ones that look more like mini-bikes.

A tank of petrol costs around £6, I ride 25 miles a day on it and a tank lasts me over a week. Plus you don't pay the congestion charge. Parking is free but it's often hard to find space in the motorcycle bays in the parts of central London with a large commuter population - Soho, Clerkenwell etc can be awful.
Go look for yourself.compare prices etc.thats half the fun!
Hi Kerry

I actually sell vintage bikes however as you are a lady in london I presume you just something very reliable and new. There are scores of companies which will sell you a cheap import but try to steer clear as alot of them are not of high quality. Looks towards classic companies like piaggio who have brought out new bikes at great prices. They are automatic gear change and never really need maintenance.

Look at Carole Nash for your insurance as they are the best in my opinion for bikes.

If you dont have a licence you can only ride upto 125 and only for a year on an l plate.

Go to scooterden in brick lane ( i think ) they are a good bunch and will point you in the right direction.

Any further help let me know

Steve
without doubt you want a honda cub ,not made any more but good second hand ones about , bullet proof , plenty spares , easy to ride etc , get someone to check the rear mudguard assembly as this was their only weak point
the one that looks good
sorry cant help but driving in London nightmare ..why moped if going to be taxi driver ..?. good luck
