What sort of test do I need to pass to drive a motorcycle in the UK?
Answers:
i did my cbt and test near manchester. i did my lessons with a guy in edenfield, i took my theory test in bolton and my practical test in blackburn. if you can manage it, dont go to bolton for your practical test - its so much harder than blackburn!!
the cbt test is the first thing you need to do, and it takes as little as one day, as much as three. it all depends on how quickly you pick the skills up to ride a bike and whether you've had any experience before. and whether you're starting out on a 50cc or a 125cc machine. once you've passed that, you can ride on the road unsupervised with L-plates on nothing bigger than a 125cc. the next thing is your theory test, then your actual test. there are 2 ways to do this - normal or direct access. direct access is a week's 'course' (usually) and once you've passed that you can ride any bike you want, regardless of cc or bhp. i did the normal test after i'd been riding for 6 months and i passed 2nd time. i failed first time cos i put my feet down on the u-turn!
anyway, a couple of weeks before your practical, book some lessons with an instructor, preferably the same one you did your cbt with as they'll already have an idea what you're like. if you need some extra practice at u-turns (as i did) use a car parking space on a supermarket carpark. if you can u-turn confident within 1 car parking space, you've cracked it.
as for instructors, i've got no hesitation at all in recommending wayne greenhalgh in rossendale, which is to the north of manchester if youdont konw where it is. the link below is his website, check it out

if you can get to him, i'd highly highly recommend him! good luck!!
cbt takes 1 day and with that you can ride anything up to 125cc and 33bhp. once you passed that direct access ( which usually consists of approx a weeks training , and you usually learn on a 500cc. pass that and you can ride anything you want. the motorcycle training school at bellue vue greyhound/speedway supposed to be good mate
to be able to anything with a bit of grunt you have to take the full bike test, try yellow pages for one day courses etc.
CBT compuslary Basic Training then your full bike test you can only ride a 125cc with a cbt, u dont need an instructor you need to find a bike test centre/school
I don't know about instructors but a lot of the big name driving schools do motorbikes too.
You need a Compulsory Basic Training test. If you already have a full driving licence, I think the CBT is all you will need for any size bike. If you only have a provisional licence, you can ride up to 125cc or take the actual DVLA driving test for bikes so you can ride bigger ones.
Evil J twin is wrong, having a car license makes no difference, you still have to do the CBT and the theory and the practical tests. If you already did the theory test for your car license you don't have to do it again.
Hi there, I am in Manchester too (I presume you mean UK)
Check your local area or Yell.com for CBT (Compulsory Basic Training)
Check out: http://www.dsa.gov.uk/bikes.asp.
For training look at: http://www.dsa.gov.uk/atozatbinfo.asp?le. for CBT company's
go to DVLA swansea internet site.they will tell you were your local bike training school is.
The main thing is to see a reputable psychologist and pass a series of tests designed to assess your presumed membership of the human race. It's the same for most kinds of driving. In Manchester? Try the Canal Lock keeper at Ashton-under-Lyme (take a 340 bus from Piccadilly)
AFAIK The car license will cover your provisional bike license possible up to 125cc but you will still need to pass CBT to ride that.
Once you have a CBT you can ride around for 2 years before passing your full bike test - which comes in 2 forms:-
1) Stage 1 - Pass test on <33bhp bike and you are restricted to riding <33bhp for 2 years, after which you can ride anything
2) Stage 2 - Pass test on >33bhp bike and ride anything you like straight off. This is sometimes called "Direct Access"
I don't think you actually need to have passed a test in the UK to drive around on a motorcycle. You obviously need a license and L Plates which will let you gain some experience, but I do suggest you take lessons as the roads can be very dangerous, look in your local yellow pages for a test centre - good luck
a c.b.t test is needed and when passed you can ride up to a 125cc bike its a 1 day course hope this helps ps its around 60 pounds
no idea but need the 2 points sorry
