Susan: I assume you mean for your radiator? No, you can't use pure water because th eminerals may corrode your system. You need to use a mix of distilled water, and anti-freeze. It's usually 50-50 mix, but you should check your owners manual or call your dealer to be sure.

Yes you can, no you shouldn't.
Pure water is corrosive and will cause rust on internal steel parts and oxidation on aluminium parts. You should put in an approved coolant as well as they have oils that coat and protect the inner parts of the engine.
While it may be okay to use water (and when you say "pure water", I am assuming you mean "without antifreeze") for an emergency fill to get you as far as the next shop, you should avoid water-only as a regular practice.
Your bike was designed to use a chemical coolant.
Also, should you forget to drain and replace the water, you could have a disaster this winter - a cracked block.
Lots of reasons not to, basically.
You can but only if its distilled and only in the warm weather. Some vehicles run cooler on just water but it is still recommended to run coolant so nothing corrodes. Good luck! :)

Quite agree with databit on this one, pure or distilled water is far more corrosive to alloy materials than even tap water. The correct additive for your system will act as a corrosion inhibitor.
Of course in an emergency it can be used but emptied out at the earliest opportunity.
