Cheap train fares, discount passes, frequent traveller schemes?

I travel from London - Derby on the train at least every 3 weeks, even if I book a week in advance (this is the most I can) it still costs around £45.
Is there any way to get it cheaper? I know students/OAPs etc can get rail cards, but Im not a student, Im 28, not on benefits etc.
I dont wanna take the bus cos it takes too long.
Ive looked at various sites such a qjump.com and the trainline, but cant find any much cheaper.

You can try splitting your tickets at various points on route, eg might cost less to buy a ticket to Bedford and get Thameslink from there. There was a site that checked all these combinations but it was taken offline after it proved so popular it overloaded the University web server that it was hosted on - it was so busy it was taking 15-20 minutes to get a result
buy it on line it's cheaper.
Check ot the Virgin Trains site for Mega train it might mean going off route a little but a lot of tickets are just £1
buy a car
