Great little run-around cars and better built than the new (now mostly French owned) Nissan Micra. My mum's had one for the last year and no major problems so far. If you can afford it however, buy a Honda!
My boyfriend works in a rent a car place. We get a different car every weekend, so we've tried the picanto. To be honest they are ok as a town car. If you're planning on using it a lot I'd get another - they're not bad but rather uncomfortable and cope really bad if you're changing the gears a lot.
However, if you're using it as a run-around then for the price and the petrol consumption, it's not a bad choice.
elebka don't confuse a large size for a good car.. otherwise you might end up with a ford granada estate. 1.7.. diesel.
personally i'm put off by the adverts. as the spiky haired one on top gear briefly claimed it as "the real new mini" (or was that the perodua somethingorother? probably the same chassis underneath) they could have gone for a slightly sportier angle, slightly more unisex (but not blokish) and got more sales
still, give it five years, there won't be more than a couple hundred left on the road. it belongs to that rather odd class of cheap small cars that get burnt up and then chucked away when they suffer their first major fault. just look how few fiat cinquecentos or daihatsu miras are about dispite previous popularity, whilst there's so many ancient polos and micras that you can hardly move for them.
