What does mr2 mean on toyota mr2?

Answers:
"The car, scheduled to be launched in spring 1984 in the Japanese market under the name MR2 (initially standing for "Midship Runabout, 2-seater" but later claimed to be "Mid-engine, Rear-wheel drive, 2-seater"), was to become the first mass-produced mid-engined car to come from a Japanese manufacturer."
Interestingly (well.. mildly anyway), in France the car is called the MR.

Reason being that "MR2" is pronounced "EMMAIRDEUX", ie "Merde" (Sh*t).
Gay. for 2 Misters not mister and mistress.
Dont know what the Toyota meaning for it is but everyone i know calls them Mister 2s. Sounds fair enough to me.
Midship Runabout 2. Weird, but thats what's moulded into the plastic under the bonnet.
