Peugeot 406 clutch fault ?
its develpoed a fault.
starts ok , but put it into gear and release the clutch and nothing.
you can also start the car in gear without pushing down the clutch pedal.
is the clutch stuck in the engaged position ?
or does it sound like something else ?
come on you petrol heads help me out please !!
Answers:
Either your clutch is totaly worn out , or you have a broken drive shaft . you do not say if it makes a noise when you engage gear , if it does its the clutch , if it doesnt then you have lost drive could be the shaft or even the selector rod from your gear lever to the gearbox has come adrift and isnt selecting gear
Have you hit it with a stick?
Assuning the engine runs okay it sounds like complete clutch failure.
Strange.
Sounds like the cluch has failed "open" some how - look in the bell housing if you can - is it fouling on something?
on my petrol v6 406 the linkage is hydraulic and failed once, and the clutch pedal went to the floor & never came back.
If the linkage had failed then the cluch would be engaged & the engine would drive the wheels.
my linkage cost about £250 to replace.
good luck
PS the clutches plates usually last a while - mine did 136,000 before it needed a new one, and that's now on 247,000 miles
It is one of normal problems on Peugeot. You must change the 4 way joint from speed handle to gear box .
Problems with a Peugeot.what a suprise. I'm afraid you have purchased someone's headache.
ya need a new clutch
