Why do i have to wear a helmet its my head no one elses its not a free country?
Answers:
Because there's a certain segment of folks in this country that can't stand to mind their own business and want to get involved in "what's in your best interest". I don't tell others to wear a helmet or not. It should be your decision. Personally I think seat belts, crash helmets or any other ancillary safety devise are absolutely the decision of the driver and not some well meaning Senator or Congressman. Hell, I moved from California to Texas so I wouldn't have to wear one. If you live somewhere where it's the law of the land and don't have the option of moving like I do.get with the organization ABATE, they are working for bikers rights everyday. I think eventually even California will lose it's mandatory helmet law, I just wasn't prepared to wait.
Quit your whining about rights.
I'm sick of hearing about a 'free' country.
You don't want to abide by laws, get the fuc-k out of the country.
But just quit your whining.
I agree, not all states have helmet laws, but he reason some do is because the insurance industry pressures the lawmakers to pass laws forcing helmet use.
Do you have health insurance or is the cost of fixing your skull going to be picked up by people who dont ride?
Im not a fan of helmet laws myself but too many times the cost of fixing people after they hurt themselves gets passed on to others.
The law is there because obviously you are not smart enough to protect yourself on your own. People drive like loons these days. All it takes is one person running a red light or crossing the double yellow line and you are a dead person.
But, hey, if you want to kill yourself, go right ahead. Just think about how your family and friends would feel if you die in an accident when you could have lived if you'd been smart and worn a helmet.
And that bit about this being a free country . freedom comes with responsibility. If you can't handle the responsibiliy, if you cannot have consideration for others, if you let your rights (which have to be earned, by the way, not given) infringe upon the rights of others, If you cannot respect the freedom of others, then you do not deserve freedom.
You don't HAVE to do anything you don't want to, there are just repercussions if you get caught. If you don't get caught, and are in a horrendous wreck with your brains splattered all over the road, that's called natural selection.
you don't in texas
Depending on the State that your in you may not be required to wear a helmet. This is a law that is set by the States themselves and has nothing do do with this being a free country. The State of Kentucky for example, requires ALL motorists to wear seat belts, but motorcyclists are not required to wear helmets provided they are over 18 years of age. Go Figure!
I was going to introduce a bill in which it would be illegal to consume Mayonaisse. Since obesity has now matched smoking as the #1 killer, it only seems right to protect people who are uncapable of protecting themselves. They make me wear a helmet so I don't cost the system more money, but its ok for fat fu-cks to clog up and flatline. Its not fair my brother. its not fair. Time to eat my Big Mac.
Move to Pennsylvania,,We don't have to wear one. It's our choice,,,Get all your biker Brothers together and get on your congressmen,,you can change the law ,,,we did. Live to Ride ,,,Ride to Live,,,,and get your hair in the wind.
because like all countries tellin us what to do there on a power trip with us and stellin our money to enforce these laws which affectes no one but our selves if I dont wear a helmet cause I dont want that my stupid problem no one elses , yer family might not like the fact that you are dead now or got to look after yer vegtable brain or body but hey someone will have to not to mention the insurance companies that have to pay for you health care ifd you even had any but I dont agree with helet laws either anarchy I say I disagree with all lol
Follow the money.
If you crash and mash your brain your family will end up bankrupt and the state usually ends up picking up a good part of the tab to feed your vegetableness for the rest of your life. That money comes out of MY pocket.
People driving cars ought to be required to wear helmets, too!
If you don't like it here, move somewhere else.
Here's why: Because if your sorry-*** falls off your bike or gets hit by a car, and you are not wearing a helmet, the chances of you dying or ending up a vegetable increase dramatically. Your insurance (if you have any) woudl never end up paying for even 10% of this, so the rest of us who ride and buy insurance would end up paying about 5 times what we now pay, to support idiots who want to be "free" to ride without a helmet.
coz u look cool in helmet
man
same as seat belt law
Because insurance lobbyists and soccer mom's with nothing better to do than try to force everyone to submit to their whim regurgitate what they read in a pro-helmet piece of literature about the financial impact of eliminating helmet laws and the inherent danger of riding without a helmet, without first pausing to do actual investigation of how helmet laws affect the riding populace, such as the fact that DOT certified helmets are only rated to crashes up to 13mph and how the number of brain stem injuries increases proportionately to the decreaseof head trauma in states where helmet use is prevalent. Let those who ride decide. I pay my taxes for schools, parks, fountains, and a host of other things that I have no stake in. If you have to shell out an extra dime or two a year because someone exercised his right to ride without a helmet, shame on you for being angry about it. Those who sacrifice liberty in exchange for safety are deserving of neither.
We have a long tradition of telling everyone else how to run their life. It's not a free country, it's a country that doesn't know what freedom is.
Freedom is not the permission to do the "right things" in the "right way" (although there are a lot of laws intended to make you act in the right way). If we are not allowed to do the "wrong thing" or act in the "wrong way" (as long as we aren't hurting someone else) then we do not have freedom.
if you want to survive a crash, or avoid a ticket, obey the law.
i used to be the same way, live in kansas and could wait till i was 19 to throw away that darn helmet. bought my first bike at 15. but know that im older and smarter. wear the helmet. it is your head, but what about your brother, sister, mom or dads heart as your head hits the ground and splits just like dropping a watermelon on the floor? is it your right to put them though that? hope fully you will realize the value of your head one day.
Move to Florida, here you're just supposed to have $10,000 in insurance to pay for the ambulance and doctors if you wreck
Move to a state that you don't need one.Like Illinois,Indiana,Texas,Minneso. the hell with it.Check it out for your self.
when i first started riding in the UK (yup I am That old)it was not compulsory in fact the only ones around were ex army and made of tin not very street cred for a rocker, now however accidents that would have been fatal then tend to turn people into paraplegics and has not done the helmet makers any harm either. maybe the legislators of the time had shares in the companies
