Best 4 door car for economy and reliability. second hand?

I have to go to Inverness from London every 2 weeks. and i have to drive.

Answers:
4 door corsa either 1.5 or 1.7 diesel, japanese isuzu engine for reliability and turbo or non turbo in both capacities. My 1.5 non turbo does 750 miles on a £40 fill up at a constant seventy mph. I once drove from Northampton to st Just near lands end and back on a tankfull!
go Japanese,
nothing (hardly)ever goes wrong with them
A honda civic. Cheap, reliable, great on gas.
Honda Civic
Toyota. And I know what I am talking about. The car will fall off around the engine before the engine will stop. The engine will still be working when you are getting white hairs.
would it not be cheaper getting a cheap flight?book it well in advance ;)
holden barina wait your in uk well whatever the equal is to that, proba ford or vw
Ford Focus, I had one for four and a half years, always reliable never ever let me down and not to bad on economy, it was a 1600cc Zetec engine and it was actually a pretty fast car and comfortable to drive especially on long journeys. That's the one I would recommend, I wish that I still had mine, in fact I'm seriously thinking of getting another one next year.
chevy aveo, basic car..good on gas, and its AMERICAN
skoda octavia tdi, its a vw golf engine and bits built on the cheap. and nearly all taxi drivers use them so must be reliabile and cheap to run
Toyota very reliable
I have a Ford Scorpio for work use and it's never let me down so far. It's a 2.3 Ultima and its ride is actually slighly better than my XJR's, and it returns 40MPG on a run. Not to mention they had a superb chassis that sticks to the road at high speeds where many smaller cars start to become light and affected by crosswinds etc.
