Do i still own the registration number?

In 1982 i scrapped my Mini. I took it to bits and sold all the parts. I have recently found the vehicle registration document. It is still in my name. Does the registration number still belong to me and as there was no need to sorn the vehicle then will i liable for any charges?

Answers:
You don't own the number only the right to use it on your vehicle. A number can only be transfered when the vehicles concerned are both MOT'd at the time of transfer. As your mini has been scrapped so the number is no longer available for use on the road.
You could ring Swansea DVLA and ask them but in view of the time since it was scrapped you are probably better just keeping quiet about it.
No, you don't own the number any more. Your old V-5 is worthless. The breaker's yard became the legal keeper once you scrapped it.
The registration number goes with the vehicle. If the vehicle no longer exists, the registration number doesn't either, unless it has been 'recycled' back into the system. No, you won't be responsible for a vehicle you scrapped out 24 years ago.
